The event in Warsaw will give children to opportunities to meet Poland's sporting greats, among them speed skaters Zbigniew Bródka and Konrad Niedźwiedzki, boxer Iwona Guzowska and mountain climber Piotr Cieszewski.

The day aims to encourage families to lead active and healthy lives while fighting “boredom” some youths may experience as they head back to school for a new academic year.

Meanwhile, data from the World Health Organisation shows that nearly a third of Polish eight-year-olds are overweight while more than ten percent are obese.

More than 300,000 people took part in National Sports Day last year. (vb)
