The only Pole in the United States’ NBA basketball league, Marcin Gortat, is set to transfer to the Los Angeles Clippers after five years with the Washington Wizards.

Gortat will be replaced by Clippers’ coach Doc Rivers’ son, Austin Rivers.

Gortat just finished his 11th season in the NBA.

Scoring 8.4 points and with 7.6 rebounds on average during the 82 games in 2017/2018, it was the 34-year-olds worst season so far.

According to the PAP news agency, last season also saw friction between Gortat and Wizards point guard John Wall. The Pole did not like the Wizards' style with Wall, which saw Gortat spend less time on the court.

With the Clippers, Gortat, who plays centre, will join two others who play in the same position, DeAndre Jordan and Boban Marjanović, but US media has speculated that Jordan may be leaving the squad, PAP reported.

Before joining the Wizards, Gortat, who is 211 centimetres tall, played for Orlando Magic and Phoenix Suns. (vb)
