More than 10,000 people took part in a poll to select a "clairvoyant" animal. Citta beat Mia the penguin and Denar the giraffe, who were also in the running.

Citta correctly picked Poland to win a pre-tournament friendly against Lithuania on Tuesday.

She will choose a winner or draw by selecting a piece of fruit.

Citta was also chosen to predict results in the Euro 2012 football tournament, hosted by Poland and Ukraine.

She had some success but in one case chose to eat a football rather than use it to make her pick.

Citta is an Asian elephant who was born in wild some 40 years ago. She spent some time working in a circus. She shares an enclosure at the zoo in Kraków, southern Poland, with 58-year-old Baby.

The World Cup kicks off on Thursday and runs until July 15.

Poland play Senegal on June 19, before facing Colombia on June 24 and Japan on June 28 in the group stage of the tournament. (vb/pk)
