Over 7,300 runners in Polish leg of Wings for Life World Run

More than 7,300 runners on Sunday took part in the Polish leg of this year’s Wings for Life World Run.

Dariusz Nożyński won the Polish leg of the international charity event, covering a distance of 66.86 kilometres.

Wioletta Paduszyńska, meanwhile, became the winner among the women, notching up 48.13 km in the race, which started off in the western city of Poznań.

Marathoner Jacek Ciełuszecki claimed the best result among Poles running anywhere in the world.

Competing in Melbourne, Australia, Ciełuszecki covered 67.3 km.

Portugal’s Vera Nunes finished the international race with the best result by a woman globally on Sunday.

Running in Munich, she covered 53.7 km.

Poland’s Dominika Stelmach, meanwhile, won the South African leg of the event, covering 49.42 km.

Last year Stelmach finished the Wings for Life World Run with the best result by a woman anywhere in the world.

Running in Santiago de Chile, Stelmach last year notched up 68.21 km.

The Wings for Life World Run is an annual international charity event that this year took place in 12 countries with a total of 102,862 runners taking part.

Runners are chased by a car, which starts half an hour after the competitors with an initial speed of 15 kph. The race ends for a competitor when he or she is passed by the car.
