Ice hockey: Poland relegated after poor showing

Poland's national ice hockey squad has been relegated after losing 1:6 to Kazakhstan on Saturday in its final IIHF World Championship Division I Group A match in Budapest.

Fans had been hoping for a strong showing from Poland, even promotion to the elite division. Instead the Poles will play in division I B next year.

Poland previously lost 1:3 to Italy, 3:5 to Britain and 2:3 to Hungary, while defeating Slovenia 4:2.
