Polish weightlifter defends European champion title

Polish weightlifter Joanna Łochowska has won a gold medal and defended her title in the 53 kg category at the European Weightlifting Championships in Bucharest, Romania.

Italy's Jennifer Lombardo came second in the category, while fellow Italian Giorgia Russo finished third.

Łochowska, 29, on Tuesday managed a combined total of 196 kg, lifting 88 kg in the snatch and 108 kg in the clean and jerk, improving by 2 kg in each event over last year.

Łochowska last year won the women's 53 kg competition at the European Weightlifting Championships in the Croatian city of Split, with a combined total of 192 kg.
