Poland wins bronze, breaks records in European cycling championships

Polish cyclists have won a bronze medal and set three national records at the Track Elite European Championships in Berlin.

Justyna Kaczkowska, Katarzyna Pawłowska, Daria Pikulik and Nikol Płosaj set a new Polish record in round one of the 4,000-metre pursuit event with a time of 4:24.872.

They then beat that record in their final round in which, with a time of 4:24.705, beating France to win bronze. Italy won gold and silver went to Britain.

Meanwhile, the Polish men's team, made up of Alan Banaszek, Szymon Sajnok, Szymon Krawczyk and Bartosz Rudyk, set a new Polish 4,000-metre pursuit record, completing 16 laps in less than four minutes for the first time ever.

But their 3:58.523 result only got them sixth place. France won the event, followed by Italy in second and Russia in third place.

The Track European championships end on Sunday.
