F1: Renault rules out Kubica comeback for Belgian Grand Prix

Despite fans' hopes, former Polish Formula One star Robert Kubica will not race for Renault in the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix, a sports news service has reported, quoting team managing director Cyril Abiteboul.

Abiteboul has denied speculation that Kubica could replace the team’s Jolyon Palmer for the Belgian Grand Prix on 25-27 August.
Palmer and Nico Hulkenberg will drive for Renault on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit during the event, Abiteboul said, according to the eurosport.onet.pl website.
In early August, Kubica returned to the track for a Renault test session, his second appearance on an F1 track after a crash six years ago.
The Skysports.com website said at the time that Kubica’s session was “seen as the final measure as to whether he will be able to make a full return to the sport in 2018.”
Renault team managers have said Kubica will not race in Formula One this season and that his Hungaroring test session was designed to evaluate his chance of a comeback next year.
The Polish driver competed for Renault in Formula One in 2010, scoring three podiums in his season with the French manufacturer before an injury sustained in a rallying crash in 2011 forced him to put his F1 career on hold. (str/vb)
