Slovak world champion Peter Sagan, a racer for UCI WorldTeam Bora-Hansgrohe, won the third stage of the race in Morro Bay on Tuesday.
Majka took the overall lead after winning the second stage of the Tour of California on Monday. He remains two seconds ahead of New Zealander George Bennett and 14 seconds ahead of American Ian Boswell.
The fourth stage takes place on Wednesday, with racers tackling a 160 km route from Santa Barbara to Santa Clarita. The competition end on Saturday.
Majka won bronze for Poland in the 2016 Olympic Games Road Race.
He is the Tour de France’s defending King of the Mountain. His victory on Monday was his first since becoming Poland’s National Road Race Champion.
