FIFA on its website said that Poland was fined “for various incidents involving unsporting conduct by fans,” six of whom were detained by Romanian police before the game.
Meanwhile, Romania received a fine of CHF 95,000 and a stadium ban, forcing it to move its World Cup qualifying match against Denmark from the National Stadium in Bucharest to a different location.
Poland beat Romania 3:0 in the 11 November game, during which a firecracker was thrown from the stands and exploded at the feet of Poland’s star forward Robert Lewandowski.
Lewandowski was temporarily deafened and treated by medics while the game was suspended. (vb/pk)
