Football: Poland may end year with record-breaking FIFA ranking

Until the end of the year, the standing of Poland’s national football squad in the FIFA ranking will likely remain unchanged at 15th, the highest ever for the team.

According to the Onet website, this is because Poland will not play any more games which could shift its standing in the ranking until the end of 2016, and there are no games which could see other teams entering the top 14.
Poland first achieved the record ranking in October after wins against Denmark (3:2) and Armenia (2:1) in eliminations for the 2018 World Cup.
The Polish squad maintained the position after playing two matches in November, wining 3:0 in a World Cup qualifier with Romania, and drawing 1:1 in a friendly match with Slovenia.
The ranking takes into account the number of games played and their results, among other factors. (vb/rg)
