Djokovic, defending his US Open title, won Monday’s match 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1.

Janowicz put his powerful service, along with a precise forehand, to good use, but was outplayed by the Serb, who has won five of the last seven Grand Slam events.

After the match Djokovic, whose fitness level has raised concerns, described his Polish opponent as “unpredictable.”
