Polish javelin thrower narrowly misses out on Rio bronze

Poland’s Maria Andrejczyk has finished fourth in the javelin at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro with a throw just two centimetres shorter than the bronze-medal winner.

Andrejczyk produced a throw of 64.78 m on Thursday, finishing behind Croatia’s Sara Kolak on 66.18 m, South Africa's Sunette Viljoen on 64.92 m and Czech Barbora Spotakova.
Twenty-year-old Andrejczyk had advanced to the finals after setting a new Polish record - her throw of 67.11 m on her first attempt was the best result this year in the world.
