At around 4:00 pm CET, the Polish footballers who played in the the EURO 2016 championships in France, landed at the Warsaw Chopin airport.

The fans who were waiting in the arrivals terminal of the airport in the Polish capital greeted the players with signs reading “Thank you”.

A day earlier, the team lost on penalties to Portugal in the quarter-final phase of the competition.

"It's cool that the first time ever, following a big tournament, we are not talking about who has to take the reigns [of the Polish team] and bring it up to speed,” fans told the PAP news agency.

This is the furthest Poland has ever come in the EURO competition. (rg)
