The victory marks Gollob’s first GP win of the season, and one which spectators will not forget for a while.

After a rickety start going round the first corner, Gollob managed to climb back from last position to take the lead in the first straight after what the Swedish TT news agency describes as “a cannonball” manoeuvre.

“The Pole did not ride the motorcycle, he flew past his rivals on it,” the TT agency quips.

Gollob managed to hold the lead position for all five circuits, defeating Jason Crump and Chris Holder, as well as American Greg Hancock, who was leading in the series tables before the race.

Commenting on his victory, 40-year-old Gollob said “I love racing in Copenhagen […] This track is one of the best for me – Gorzow [Wielkopolski] and Copenhagen are my favourites.” (jb)
