However, since the amount of the banned substance was relatively small, Gadżijew will be allowed to take part in other international competitions, Polish media reported.

Meldonium can enhance athletic performance and was recently banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

Gadżijew, 27, is this year's European freestyle champion in the 70 kg category and a silver medalist at last year's European championships in Baku, when he made his debut for Poland.

He comes from Dagestan, and previously competed for the national Russian team. He was granted Polish citizenship at the end of 2015. (pk)
