At Malgorzata’s bedside when she died was her mother, sister and husband. “Please respect our privacy,” her sister Katarzyna told media after the death occurred at around 5.30 am Australian time today.

The family is now making plans for her funeral, which will probably take place in Brisbane.

Malgorzata’s basketball team, Northside Wizards in Brisbane has issued a statement on its website saying. "Margo, you will be forever in our hearts. Margo had a heart attack over a week ago and passed away on Friday, 27 May, surrounded by her family. You were a dear part of our community and we will miss you always . We share our grief with your family, husband David and your wonderful young sons.”

Measuring 218 cms, Dydek was considered the best, and tallest, female basketball player in the world in her prime, who played for clubs Europe and in the American WNBA league.

On 19 May, Dydek had a heart attack and lost consciousness at her home in Brisbane, where she lived with her husband and two children. (pg)
