Adamek calls it a day after Kraków knockout

Polish boxer Tomasz Adamek announced following his loss to Eric 'Drummer Boy' Molina in Kraków on Saturday that he is retiring from the sport.

Molina dealt the decisive blow in the closing seconds of the tenth round of the clash at the Tauron Kraków Arena.

Now 39, Adamek has been one of Poland's most successful boxers of recent years.

Born in Żywiec, southern Poland, Adamek is a former WBC light heavyweight champion, and likewise as a former IBF, IBO and The Ring magazine cruiserweight champion.

He is known as 'Góral' (Highlander), on account of the region of uplands that he hails from. (nh/pk)
