Poland's Łukasz Kubot and his Brazilian partner Marcelo Melo defeated Colombians Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah 6-3, 6-7 (9-11), 10-8 on Wednesday at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna.

The winners are in for a tough ride in their next clash, which will be against the highest-seeded pair in the tournament of Dutchman Jean-Julien Rojer and Romanian Horia Tecau.
On Tuesday Jerzy Janowicz knocked out fifth seed Dominic Thiem in their opening match.
Łukasz Kubot's doubles career highlight to date is his victory in the 2014 Australian Open, together with Swedish partner Robert Linstedt. Although he no longer plays in singles matches, he made the quarter-finals of Wimbledon in 2013 but was knocked out by Janowicz, in an unlikely clash of two Poles. (nh/rk)
