Omullo Ezekiel wins Warsaw marathon

The 37th PZU marathon saw thousands of participants run in the streets of the Polish capital, Warsaw, with Kenyan Omullo Ezekiel the first to cross the finishing line.

Around 7,000 runners took off at 9:00 am on Sunday at the foot of the National Stadium in Warsaw. They covered a distance of over 42 kilometres along the two banks of the Vistula river in the Polish capital.

The race was won by Kenyan runner Omullo Ezekiel, who finished the gruelling marathon in 02:09:19. Other runners on the podium were Victor Kipchirchir (Kenya, 02:10:45) and Johnstone K. Mayio (Kenya, 02:10:58).

Among the people cheering the runners was the governor of the Mazowsze region, Jacek Kozłowski. He said that the Warsaw Marathon is one of his favourite sporting events. He himself completed it five times, and added that this year’s chosen route was a very scenic one. (rg/rk)
