Kubot has yet to play in a Grand Slam mixed doubles final, although he won the men's doubles of the Australian Open in 2014, his career highlight to date.

The 33-year-old Polish player decided to drop singles matches this summer, so as to focus on doubles fixtures.

He is the only remaining Pole in the US Open, after Marcin Matkowski and Serb Nenad Zimonjic were defeated on Tuesday in the men's doubles 6-3 3-6, 6-7.

However, it seems that Kubot and Hlavackova will have the home crowd rooting against them in their forthcoming semi-final, as they are up against the American duo of Sam Querrey and Bethanie Mattek-Sands. (nh)
