Zbigniew Boniek, the head of the Polish Football Association (PZPN), has quashed speculation that he might run for the presidency of UEFA if current chief Michel Platini wins the top FIFA job.

I'm not interested,” Boniek told onet.pl.

The heads of the [football] federations of Spain and Germany for example certainly harbour dreams of being the president of UEFA,” he reflected.

To be honest, I know my place in line.”

There's a lot going on in the media on this subject, but, as I said, I'm not at all interested.”

Commentator and former Polish goalkeeper Jan Tomaszewski had said that Boniek should fight for the UEFA post, but such a development does not seem to be on the cards.

Platini is a leading candidate for the FIFA presidency, after recently re-elected chief Sepp Blatter agreed to stand down amid a corruption scandal that has engulfed the organisation.

Blatter will continue to hold the post until an extraordinary FIFA Congress in February 2016, when the next president will be picked. (nh)
