The 27-year-old from Zakopane started his descent on 24 July at 3am local time (00:00 CET), accompanied by 56-year-old Varsovian Dariusz Zaluski, winner of five eight-thousanders, including Mount Everest (8,848 m) and K2 (8,611 m), and the author of well-known mountain films.

Ecuadorians and Spanish were also part of the team.

Broad Peak is the 12th highest mountain in the world at 8,051 metres above sea level. It is part of the Gasherbrum massif in Baltistan on the border of Pakistan and China, located in the Karakoram mountain range about 8 kilometres from K2. It has a summit over 1.5 kilometres long, hence the name "Broad Peak." (jh)
