Reports indicate that at least 18 people were injured, including one Lech fan who was stabbed.
Violence broke out both in Sarajevo and in the nearby town of Vogosca, where Polish fans are quartered.
Several cars and shops were vandalised.
UEFA delegate Kazimierz Oleszek has told Eurosport that it is too early to apportion blame for starting the clashes, as evidence from witnesses is still being collected.
However, local media source Klix has claimed that Polish fans “demolished everything in their path” while rampaging through the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Witnesses have claimed that the Poles were chanting the provocative slogan of 'this is Serbia'.
The match is due to begin at 9:00 pm. (nh)
