Polish wrestlers snap up two medals in Baku

Poland won both a silver and a bronze medal on Thursday, with Magomedmurad Gadzhiev and Radosław Marcinkiewicz keeping Poland's medal tally ticking over at the 1st European Games.

Gadzhiev took silver in the Men's 70 kg Freestyle, while Marcinkiewicz managed his bronze in the 86 kg Freestyle.

Polish wrestlers have amassed five medals so far at the games in Baku, Azerbaijan.

In the women's events, Roksana Zasina and Katarzyna Krawczyk took silver in the 53 kg Freestyle and the 55 kg Freestyle respectively. Iwona Matkowska won bronze in the 48 kg Freestyle.

Poland is currently 15th in the overal medals table, with 10 medals, including 1 gold, 4 silvers and 5 bronzes. Russia is leading the pack, with host Azerbaijan in second place, followed by Hungary.

The inaugural edition of the games takes in 20 sports, with 253 medal events. The competition wraps up on 28 June. (nh)
