In yet another drawn out battle this tournament, Radwanska spent over two and a half hours on court before she was finally ousted.

It all looked sown up for the World No.3, who after a comfortable first set win, advanced to 5-4 in the second set.

The first match point was just a whisker away from being a backhand winner for Radwanska, and the Slovak then hammered away two subsequent match points in the same game, before taking the set to a tie-break.

In the tie-break itself, Radwanska streaked ahead once again, going 5-2 up, before Cibulkova powered back to win 7-5.

Sniffing victory, Cibulkova managed to maintain the momentum in the final set, winning 6-3.

“It's always tough to play Aga, but I knew I just had to stay aggressive,” she commented.

“If you make some mistakes with Aga you still have to stay aggressive. That's the way I play, and it's the only way to beat her.

“I just had to keep going.”

Cibulkova, who went into the match as World No. 11, is now set to advance into the top ten. (nh)
