Shegumo wins Warsaw Marathon for Poland

It was a tight finish at the National Stadium, with Shegumo just three seconds ahead of Norwegian Weldu Negash Gebretsadik, completing the event in 2.10,34.

Solomon Molla Tiumauy of Ethiopia came third with 2.10,39.

Shegumo has held Polish citizenship for ten years now, and he completed several weeks of hard training in Ethiopia in the lead-up to Sunday's race.

First past the finishing line in the women's event this year was Goitetom Haftu Teshema of Ethiopia, with a time of 2.29,32.

The fastest female Polish contestant this year was Anna Wojna, who came in fifth with 2.50,56.

All in all, some 8672 runners took part in the 35th Warsaw Marathon. (nh)
