Legia's 5 – 0 thrashing of Slask Wroclaw – last year's champions – was a formality after the Warsaw team went into the last round of the Ekstraklasa season six points clear of their nearest rivals Lech Poznan.
Legia add the championship win to the Polish Cup victory earlier in the 2012/13 season.
Despite the loss, Slask Wroclaw still took third place in the league after Piast Gliwice also lost to bottom of the league side GKS Bełchatów.
Meanwhile, Polonia Warszawa put out a side full of reserves – without even a second goalkeeper on the bench - for the match against Pogon Szczecin, which they lost 1 – 3.
The result was without much meaning for the debt-ridden side from the Polish capital, as, even though they finished a respectable sixth in the Ekstraklasa league, they will be relegated from the division after failing to obtain a licence from the Polish football association (PZPN) due to being unable to meet financial obligations to players and the taxman.
Polonia, winners of the Ekstraklasa league in 2000, will now be relegated from top flight football.
Polonia's coach was pleased with the way his side performed in the last match in the Ekstraklasa, however.
“My young team played good, open football, in a way that pleases the fans,” said Piotr Stokowiec after the match. (pg)
