Stands at the Municipal Stadium in Poznan, western Poland, have been closed owing to fears of collapse.

According to the Poznan branch of the Gazeta Wyborcza daily, “the matter is serious,” and it concerns “structural defects” which could cause “a catastrophe.”
The paper states that “one of the stands in which there is a threat of collapse is right by the boxes used in matches by VIPs.”
Last month, a group of schoolchildren were supposed to have the treat of using the VIP boxes during a game at the stadium, but ultimately they were not admitted, and the pupils were instead directed to other seats.
The stadium was one of Poland's four venues during the Euro 2012 tournament, an event co-hosted by Ukraine.
The arena is the home of Polish league side Lech Poznan, which plays in the country's top division (Ekstraklasa).
Reconstruction of the stadium for Euro 2012 cost over 750 million zloty (182.2 million euro). (nh)
