Radwanska, currently No. 4 in the WTA rankings, made short shrift of her opponent in the first set, dropping only one game.
Ivanovic (WTA No. 13) proved her own worst enemy by making some 21 unforced errors.
However, the Serb No. 1 upped her game in the second set, taking the Pole to a tie-break.
“She didn't give me any free points in the second set. It was really close,” Radwanska told Associated Press after the match.
“But I'm very, very happy that I could close this and win in two sets, because, you know, in the third set you never know what's going to happen,” she said.
Meanwhile, Radwanska's younger sister Urszula was less fortunate in her third round clash, being pitched against the formidable Serena Williams.
The American ace powered through the first set to win 6-0. However, Radwanska was able to put up some resistance in the second set, taking three games off the US star.
If Williams gets only as far as the semi-finals in Doha, she will reclaim her place as the World No.1, after beginning a comeback last summer, defeating Agnieszka Radwanska in the Wimbledon final.
Meanwhile, Radwanska is set to play Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki in the quarter-finals. (nh)
