The crew of the Dar Młodzieży marked Polish Independence Day on November 11 in Osaka, where local officials joined in the celebrations, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

The ship will remain in the Japanese port until Friday. It is then due to head for the western coast of the United States and on to Panama for the Roman Catholic Church's World Youth Day in January 2019.

The Dar Młodzieży left the Polish Baltic port of Gdynia in May, with plans to call in at 22 ports around the world during its 10-month Independence Cruise.

Poland this year marks the centenary of regaining its independence after more than 120 years of foreign rule.
