The Ministry of Agriculture has informed that it has closed down and removed from licenced registers the slaughterhouse at the heart of a scandal with procuring meat from sick or dying animals.

The Ministry also added that information about the markets where the slaughterhouse sold its meat products have been filed with the European RASFF food and feed safety alert system. According to Ministry officials, all meat produced by this plant has been confiscated and examined, and presented "no biological threats", nonetheless because of the illegal procedures that have come to light, the meat was being withdrawn from markets abroad.
This Monday, European experts arrive in Poland for an investigation in the wake of a scandal that broke out after reporters from the commercial TVN station exposed that the slaughterhouse was processing meat from sick cows as well as animals illegally brought in already dead. Poland's national veterinary authorities calculated that the plant illegally sold about 9 tonnes of meat, some of it finding its way to 11 European countries.
