Poland's Witold Waszczykowski referred to his government’s expectations regarding implementation of the Treaty provisions dealing with the rights of the Polish minority in Germany.

Together with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, he agreed that close cooperation between Poland and Germany is essential for solving the major problems facing the European Union and the international community.

They also recognised the role of Weimar-Triangle consultation mechanisms as an important tool of bilateral cooperation.

Waszczykowski congratulated Steinmeier on his candidacy for the office of the Federal President. He expressed his hope that Warsaw will be the first capital the new German President visits after being elected by the Federal Convention this coming February. (rg)
