According to IAR, the company announced that a need to restructure its Europe, Middle East and Africa arm is behind the decision to move production to Łódź, in central Poland.
Media reports suggest the decision is not surprising. According to the reports, a director, who had for years been against the move, left the company at the end of 2016. Meanwhile, in the last 15 years, the number of workers at the company's plant in Amiens, in northern France, fell from 1,300 to under 300.
The reports also suggest that the Amiens factory had been recording annual losses of up to EUR 10 million (PLN 44 million).
Whirlpool subsidiary Indesit already has a production facility in Łódź. (vb/pk)
