World Youth Day in Poland "will be safe"

Pilgrims taking part in World Youth Day can be assured that the event will be safe, said spokesman for the Polish Episcopate Father Paweł Rytel-Andrianik.

He said that "a test before World Youth Day was the recent NATO summit in Warsaw, which was assessed very positively in terms of safety measures."
The priest added that "there are no signals about some significant threat" in the country.
Meanwhile, Internal Affairs Minister Mariusz Błaszczak said in an interview with the PAP news agency that Poland’s Government Protection Bureau (BOR) was prepared for an upcoming visit of Pope Francis.
The official said that a number of mutual exercises with the Vatican’s secret service were held in recent months, in order to improve coordination between the states’ officers.
World Youth Day starts on Monday in the Polish city of Kraków, with the head of the Catholic Church arriving in Poland on Wednesday. (ał)
