Scores of runners took part in the Marriott Everest Run Saturday, in an attempt to scale the world's highest mountain – by climbing stairs.

Participants had to run up the stairs in the 42-floor Warsaw landmark 65 times to run a total of 8,850m – roughly the height of Mount Everest.
“In the Marriott Everest Run, your speed does not count,” the organisers said. “You only need set the time limit on the dream run to the top.”
Runners had a total of 24 hours to reach the “summit”.
Those who did not feel up to challenging the Himalayan giant, could set their sights on something more modest, such as Poland's Łysica (five times up the Warsaw Marriott), and Kasprowy Wierch (15 times), or even the Mont Blanc (35 times). (rg)
