Santander already has one Polish bank its portfolio – BZ WBK – which it purchased from Allied Irish Bank in 2010.
According to unofficial information quoted by the Dziennik Gazeta Prawna daily, Santander is hoping to persuade Belgium-based KBC, the owners of Kredyt Bank, to draft negotiations of the sale of the Polish bank, bypassing a tender.
According to the daily, the purchase of Kredyt Bank and its subsequent merger with BZ WBK would make the Spanish group the owner of Poland’s third largest bank. (jb)
