The number of Ukrainian, Belarusians or Russians employed by Polish companies, farmers and families has doubled since last year.

This is an effect of a demand for low paid workers and those ready to fulfill tasks not eagerly taken up by Poles, such as rural work or building roads.

Such jobs are undertaken by Poles in western Europe which pay much higher wages than in Poland.

In the first half of 2011 some 164,000 declarations of employing a foreigner were presented at Polish employment agencies, while 180,000 were made during the whole of 2010.

According to analysts Poland this year can expect a wave of some 300,000 migrants from the east coming in search of work, with 2012 seeing an even larger number. (ab/pg)
