Polish retail sales up 5.6% y/y in May: stats office

Retail sales in Poland rose 5.6 percent in May compared with the same month a year earlier, the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) said on Monday.

Sales of motor vehicles shot up by 16.6 percent in year-on-year terms, and the same growth rate was recorded for furniture, consumer electronics and household appliances.

Among other goods, sales of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics increased 14.8 percent, while sales of clothing and shoes decreased by 0.1 percent.

In real terms, retail sales last month were 7.3 percent higher than in May last year, the Central Statistical Office reported.

In month-on-month terms, retail sales in May were 3.5 percent lower than in April, according to the statistics office.
