Other key exporters included Belgium (nearly 30 percent market share), the Czech Republic (7 percent) and France (6 percent), the Obserwator Finansowy website reported.

It cited data from Poland's Central Statistical Office (GUS) showing that Polish companies exported 131 electric buses in 2018, up from 24 in the previous year.

The total value of buses sold by Poland-based manufacturers abroad last year stood at PLN 231.8 million (EUR 54.2 million, USD 61.3 million), the obserwatorfinansowy.pl said, citing the Polish Economic Institute (PIE).

Poland chiefly sells electric vehicles to EU countries such as the Czech Republic and Italy. Each of these two markets accounts for 24 percent of the total value of exports. Other buyers include Romania (11 percent) and Germany (10 percent), alongside Austria, Belgium and Latvia (each with nearly 7 percent).

Three Polish-based enterprises specialise in electric buses: Solaris, Ursus Bus and Volvo Polska.

The global electric bus market is expected to grow by 17 percent annually and reach 331,327 units by 2025, according to a study by business consultancy firm Prescient & Strategic Intelligence.
