Poland ended 2018 with a general government deficit of 0.4 percent of GDP, the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) has reported.

Meanwhile, the country’s public debt fell to 48.9 percent of GDP last year, from 50.6 percent in 2017 and 54.2 percent in 2016, the office said on Monday.
Finance Minister Teresa Czerwińska said in a comment that Poland’s general government deficit and debt shrank last year on the back of efforts to ensure spending discipline and a growing stream of tax revenue.
Czerwińska also said that the country’s economic growth this year was set to decelerate slightly, but that the slowdown would be mitigated by a planned fiscal stimulus.
Poland will remain one of the fastest-growing economies in the European Union in 2019, according to Czerwińska.
Poland notched up the third-fastest GDP growth in the EU in 2018, the European Commission said in February.
