The top fruit producers are: Italy, whose orchards take up 1.1 percent of the country, and Spain, where the fruit cultivation area accounts for 0.9 percent of the territory.

Fruit farmland in Poland rose by 16,000 hectares between 2012 and 2017, up by 11 percent to reach 167,000 hectares in total, according to Eurostat.

Apple production largely accounts for the increase. In five years, apple orchards swelled by 12.4 percent. Poland exported over a million tonnes of apples in 2017, up by eight percent compared to 2012, with the total export value standing at PLN 1.5 billion (EUR 350 mln, USD 400 mln).

In 2018 it rose 23 percent, from a rate of PLN 1.45 per kilo in 2017 to PLN 1.78 in the following year.

In recent years Poland has begun exporting apples to new markets in countries such as Romania, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Serbia and Jordan.
