The commission said, however, that Poland faces a shortage of skilled labour which is hindering the development of many sectors of the economy.

The EU’s executive added in its report, published on Wednesday, that insufficient childcare facilities posed a problem for workers.

The Polish economy grew 4.9 percent in the fourth quarter of last year, the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) said in a flash estimate earlier this month.

The economy expanded by 5.1 percent in 2018 as a whole, according to the office.

Meanwhile, unemployment in Poland edged up to 6.1 percent in January from 5.8 percent in December, the office said on Monday.
