Unemployment in Poland edged up to 6.1 percent in January from 5.8 percent in December, the country’s state-run Central Statistical Office (GUS) said on Monday.

The reading was a notch lower than a preliminary estimate of 6.2 percent for January issued by the labour ministry earlier this month.
The statistics office reported last month that Poland’s jobless rate in December inched up to 5.8 percent from 5.7 percent in November.
According to the European Union’s Eurostat statistics agency, which uses a different methodology, unemployment in Poland in December was a modest 3.5 percent, the third-lowest rate in the 28-nation bloc.
