Analysts surveyed by the PAP news agency had expected the economy to grow 4.8 percent year on year in the final quarter of 2018.

The Polish economy grew 5.1 percent in the third quarter of last year, according to the Central Statistical Office (GUS).

The Polish economy expanded by 5.1 percent in 2018 as a whole, the office said last month in a flash estimate.

The European Commission said this month that Poland notched up the third-fastest economic growth in the European Union in 2018, outperformed only by Ireland and Malta.

The EU’s executive arm said in a report that Polish GDP growth last year was the fastest since 2007.
