The figure was a preliminary estimate subject to confirmation by the state-run Central Statistical Office (GUS).
The office reported last month that Poland’s jobless rate in December inched up to 5.8 percent, from 5.7 percent in November.
According to the European Union’s Eurostat statistics agency, which uses a different methodology, unemployment in Poland in December was a modest 3.5 percent, the third-lowest rate in the 28-nation bloc.
