The airline won the distinction in a poll carried out among the publication’s readers for the second time in a row, outranking rivals such as Russia's Aeroflot, Croatia Airlines and Hungary’s low-cost carrier Wizzair.

LOT spokesman Adrian Kubicki said: “It’s an important award, which attests to the fact that LOT is becoming more popular and recognisable also overseas.”

He added: “The rapid growth of both short- and long-haul connections makes LOT the airline of choice for passengers travelling to and from the fastest expanding region in the continent, Central and Eastern Europe.”

Last year, LOT transported 6.8 million passengers, up by a quarter compared to the previous year. The carrier intends to set a new record by serving 10 million passengers in 2019, the company said.

LOT offers 107 regional and global connections. Since the start of 2016, the carrier has expanded its network to launch flights to cities such as Miami, Los Angeles, Seoul, Tokyo and Singapore.
