Polish spa among Europe’s best: Guardian

A subterranean health complex in the Wieliczka Salt Mine in southern Poland has been listed among some of the best spas in Europe by The Guardian.

The British daily says the Wieliczka spa draws on an ancient belief in the healing powers of salt. It encourages its readers to "feel the therapeutic power of a salt microclimate."
The Guardian’s list also includes spas in France, Finland, Croatia and Ireland.
Founded in the mid-13th century, the Wieliczka Salt Mine near the historic city of Kraków is one of Poland’s top tourist destinations.
Last year, it attracted over 1.7 million visitors, with foreigners accounting for more than half the total.
In 1978, the Wieliczka Salt Mine was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
