Morawiecki was speaking at the high-profile Congress 590 business forum in Jasionka, southeastern Poland.

He referred to preliminary figures by the EU’s statistics agency, Eurostat, according to which Poland had the fastest economic growth in the European Union in the third quarter, notching up an impressive 5.7 percent year on year.

The Eurostat figures from earlier this week were based on partial data, without the statistics for eight countries including Ireland and Malta.

In a flash estimate on Wednesday, Poland’s own Central Statistical Office said the country’s economy grew 5.1 percent in the third quarter of this year.

“There’s a lot to be happy about,” Morawiecki said.

He added: "We want employee salaries to grow rapidly. We believe that then employers, entrepreneurs and the state will be even more appreciative of them.”
