The award, granted to figures judged to have had the greatest influence on public affairs in Central and Eastern Europe, was handed to Skvernelis on Wednesday by Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH) was named the non-governmental organisation of the year, while the state-run Polish Development Fund (PFR) was named the company of 2017.

The fund was created to support economic growth and sustainable social development.

Senior politicians, parliamentarians, business executives and culture leaders were among thousands of guests attending the annual Krynica Economic Forum, which is billed as the largest conference of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe and is sometimes referred to as the "Polish Davos.”
